government's new cell phone restrictions came into effect in
schools. The new restrictions vary little from our current policy and
cell phone use in classrooms will be at the discretion of the teacher.
The board's expectations for cell phones are included in the student
code of conduct, APM 7630, point 3.1.12, and read as follows:
members of the school community must "respect the need of others to
work in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching, including
ensuring that cellphones and other personal mobile devices are only
used during instructional time for educational purposes (as directed by
an educator), for health and medical purposes and/or to support special
As well, cell phones are not permitted on the school yard at recess.
